Till about 2 years ago, she was just another working professional in her late 20s who was juggling her work and raising a child. Weighing over 90 kg, and unable to invest in her own health due to work pressure & endless household chores, she was leading an unhealthy and an overall unsatisfactory life.
Today, she’s an inspiration for thousands of women and encourages them to take their health and fitness seriously.
Diksha Chhabra’s story isn’t just another tale of an incredible weight loss. It’s a journey of hard work, patience and a lot of determination.
With her husband serving in the army, 30-year-old Diksha Chhabra was working as an administrator at a school in Delhi. She was also raising her 5-year-old kid all by herself.
After noticing an unusual weight gain, she decided to visit a doctor who diagnosed her with hypothyroidism and PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian disease).
Diksha had been wanting to overhaul her lifestyle and diet for quite some time, but when one of her friends at a college reunion expressed her concern about Diksha’s weight-gain, she was jolted out of her comfort zone.
At that moment, she decided to eat better and get physically fit. Diksha quit her job and put her entire focus on improving her health.
As a first step towards being fit, she bought a treadmill and made a super-restrictive diet plan! While talking to Lolmenow she said:
I was shy to go out and work out. So I got a treadmill and started doing cardio at home.
Within 8 months, she lost 18 kilograms. But Diksha wasn’t satisfied with the result.
She realised that she needed to do weightlifting to achieve a toned body and not just lose weight with the extra skin sagging around hands and waist.
She began learning more about strength training. Diksha also went on from being a vegetarian to including chicken and fish in her diet for a natural source of protein. She was lifting weights and lost further 12 kg.
What was her family’s reacting as they saw her working so hard? She says:
Initially, they were surprised to see me swtich to a non-vegetarian diet, but as they saw the results they were really happy.
Standing 5 ft 7 inches tall, she now weighs a perfect 60 kilograms. During her journey of transformation, she amassed thousands of followers on social media.
Today, she’s a model, an official coach with Decathlon, a nutritionist and a fitness trainer.
Diksha’s envious body isn’t the only reward of her hard work. This year, she also won Mrs India Earth-runner up. As she says:
I’ve put in a lot of hard work into achieving this level of fitness and it has given me an immense sense of self-confidence.
Diksha believes that self-love is extremely important. And that it’s only when you’re happy, that you’ll be able to pass it on to the others.
It’s our overall culture that’s to be blamed that Indian women don’t prioritise their health. Once a girl is married, she’s expected to give the highest preference to her kids and family. Her own health takes a backseat. But how can you take care of others when you yourself aren’t happy and healthy? You can’t pour from an empty jar.
After achieving this immense success, Diksha feels even more motivated and wants to encourage more women to take care of themselves. She said:
I want to break the contemporary Indian woman myth. I want to empower the women of today and help them embrace a healthy lifestyle!
